As expression on interest for the consultancy services to undertake an Assessment and Design of Water Supply System for Koidu and it’s Environment, Water Resources Ministry has received funds from the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance to effect proper Water facility to Koidu district and it’s Environment.
In a stakeholder’s engagement held at the Kono District Council, Water Resources Minister Engineer Philip K Lansana said His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has a strong vision and sympathy for improving Water facility for the people of Sierra Leone emphasizing that we need to value Water as Water is life.
He mentioned that in collaboration with the Finance, seven districts have been identified to prepare hundred bore holes that would salvage the water crisis within these districts.
He pointed out that Kono is part of that facility, and will ensure that free pipe borne water supply will be restored in the Kono District.
He stated that instead of doing the feasibility studies for six months it has been compressed to a period of one month in order to see some of the basic facilities for storage, tanks, treatment and the designs for the district adding that government now plan in ensuring that hundred bored holes will be maintained every year countrywide.
The Project Manager Ing Francis Moijue said that with their feasibility studies, they intend creating better Water services and not water wells as Kono Water project will be targeting pipe borne water which he emphasized will be wholly funded by the Government of Sierra Leone.
He says this project will be done with a difference in terms of designs, control points and kilometer pipe lines.
Ing Moijue revealed that after collecting proper data in the feasibility studies they will put it in to reality and help solve the social problem in Kono.
The Managing Director of SALWACO Ing George L Vandi stated that Kono is so strategic and it’s high time for the people to get water facility.
He said SALWACO has done lots of studies on Water with funding from the Africa Development Bank in order to reform water facility to Koidu.
Mayor of Koidu city Komba Sahr lauded Government for this venture adding that the people of Kono over years suffered a lot from safe drinking water whilst the Senior District Officer Chaired the ceremony.
