Ing. Philip Karimu Lansana, Pr. Eng., PMP

Philip is both a professional civil engineer and professional project manager. He is a Registered Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) with Engineering Council South Africa (ECSA), has a Project Management Professional (PMP) credential with the Project Management Institute (PMI) and is a Fellow of the Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers (FSLIE). He is a qualified civil engineer with specialisation in water engineering and has completed programmes in management, construction adjudication and financial management inter alia.

His experience spans over 35 years in private, public and NGO sectors.  This experience includes organisational management, contracts & project/programme development & management, civil engineering design and design review.

In the private sector he served as Regional/Office Manager and Principal Engineer for Engineering Firms and served as a Water and Sanitation technical and management consultant to both national and local government departments of South Africa.   In the NGO Sector he served as Project Manager, Programme Manager and WASH National Sector Coordinator in Sierra Leone.  In the Public Sector he served as Director General and Managing Director for Public Water Supply Company in Sierra Leone.

During these years he acquired experience in the design of water and sanitation infrastructure, project management of civil engineering infrastructure construction, management of infrastructure institutions and, technical and management support to municipalities.

He currently serves as assessor, interviewer, moderator for the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). In this capacity, he assesses Engineers’ (applicants’) eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.

Before becoming Minister of Water Resources in November 2019, he was Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company.
